Xaime Niembro is one of the most respected mezcal producers in Mexico. When Covid travel restrictions left him isolated in his home state of Queretaro in Central Mexico, he set his sights on a family vineyard that had been planted in 2000. Xaime works with a team of friends to produce these wines, stating that there is no one winemaker, they work as a team. One of the few estates in Queretaro that is producing natural wines from organically grown fruit, Barrigon is the word in Spanish for someone with a big belly! This struck them as a great name because everything that goes to your belly should make you feel happy! While Xaime insists that wine shouldn't be taken too seriously, these are very intentional wines and really are the reference point for quality winemaking in central Mexico.
