Bruno Dubois has established himself as one of the greatest defenders of the Saumur-Champigny terroir and land. Along with icons like Thierry Germain and Nadi Foucault, Dubois is paving the way for the organic and purity of this often overlooked AOC. Bruno Dubois currently cultivates 3.5 hectares of vineyards between 45 and 65 years old. The vineyards are interspersed with native shrubs and trees, the flora and fauna are nurtured with birdhouses, bat roosts and beehives. The top soils in the vineyard are clay and limestone with a base of the famous tuff stone. Bruno established himself in Saumur-Champigny in 2002. He immediately began converting the vineyards to organic in 2002, converting them fully to organic 100% in 2004. In 2012, the vineyards obtained EcoCert certification and 2015 biodynamic Demeter certification. Before landing in Saumur-Champigny, Dubois worked in the winery and vineyards of the late Marcel Lapierre in Villié-Morgon. The stewardship of the land and unwavering passion for organic, hands-off winemaking that he learned from Lapierre translated perfectly into the soil and climate of his hometown. Dubois' philosophy at the winery is to produce wines with as little human intervention as possible, native fermentation, no pumpovers, light extraction, no added sulphites. The result is a transparent expression of the grapes that uphold the integrity and history of Saumur-Champigny.
