Maison Charles Frey is one of the oldest biodynamic estates in Alsace. Today, young brothers Julien and Thiebaud are at the helm over the 14 hectare estate based in Dambach. In 1958, Charles Frey was gifted 0.75 hectare from his father. Through persistence and quality winemaking the Frey's grew their estate over the next few decades. In 1997 Charles' son converted the estate to biodynamics; making it one of the pioneers in Alsace. In these early years the family even harvested nettles for his sprays at night, so they could avoid the disapproving stares of his neighbors. The through-line of the wines are clean and precise natural fermenations while the range is wide, including Frankstein Grand Crus, Cremant, Macerations, and just about every single varietal that is grown in Alsace.
