François Grange is the former longtime vineyard manager for the iconic Chandon De Briailles. He was responsible for the expansive shift in farming, including introducing horse plowing and eschewing the use of sulfur in the cellar. These are the changes that helped to launch Chandon De Briailles to the heights of its current popularity (its status as one of the most celebrated estates in all of Burgundy).
In 2022 he was given the chance to begin his own estate in the Hautes Côtes de Beaune. Nestled east of Savigny Les Beaune and northeast of Pommard and Volnay in the town of Mavilly-Mandelot. There are seven hectares under vine currently, planted to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, and a single hectare of Aligote. This cooler pocket of the Haute - Mandelot often ripens 1-2 weeks later than the rest of the appellation, giving the grapes the opportunity to achieve full phenolic maturation without compromising on acidity.
Farming is handled in much the same vein that he introduced at Chandon- with the inclusion of pigs, horses and sheep contributing to the vineyard crew and its fertility.
2023 is the first released vintage and we couldn't be more excited to bring Francois's wines to TX.
