In 2017, Bence Szilagy took over his father's two acre hobby vineyard. The name "Grand vin de Barnag" was a joke amongst Bence's friends poking fun at both the self-important names some wineries bestow upon themselves and the humble tiny village, Barnag, where Bence farms. The wines however are no laughing matter: Vibrant and ethereal Bence's wines showcase a wide variety of styles and varietals. He still farms the original two acre vineyard with a no-till and minimal input philosophy to obtain the highest biodiversity possible. In the cellar Bence relies on intuition, letting the grapes guide his winemaking, with a special fondness for whole-cluster ferments. As a first generation winemaker, Bence is a star on the rise in Hungary and making some of our favorite wines in Eastern Europe.
