Lalande de Pomerol

Damien Bielle spent several years working in the world of Bordeaux's grand cru vineyards, at Château Petrus and Cheval Blanc, before feeling the need for autonomy and his own unique style take hold. Returning in 2004 to the estate created by his grandfather Marius in the 1940s, he initially partnered with his aunt, and has now been solely in charge of its 13 hectares since 2020. In the cellar, he uses concrete vats, which he appreciates for their gentle accompaniment to the Merlot. Damien grew up surrounded by wines of the past, wines that took their time aging in the cellar and then in the bottle; he is therefore very sensitive to this and cherishes the passing years, as they allow the wines to reveal themselves and find their complexity. Lalande de Pomerol is an ocean of vines in the middle of which Damien lives, even though he tries to break with monoculture by planting trees, letting grass and flowers grow, and freeing up space for an orchard, vegetable garden, and animals. He is proud to be an ambassador for Bordeaux and is happy when he hears that his wines "reconcile people with Bordeaux."
